Regulations for Fresh College Graduates to Study in the Direct Ph.D. Track

1. 本作業規定依據教育部「學生逕修讀博士學位辦法」及本校「學生逕修讀博士學位作業規定」訂定之。
   Regulations stated herein are proposed in accordance with the Policies for Students to Study in the Direct Ph.D. Track of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Regulations for Students to Study in the Direct Ph.D. Track of National Chiao Tung University (NCTU).
2. 本系申請逕修讀博士學位學生資格如下：學士班應屆畢業生（含申請提前畢業學生）具下列條件之一者：
   To be eligible for applying to the direct Ph.D. track of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management (DEM, hereafter the Department), a graduating college student (including the student of early graduation) should meet one of the criteria below:
   1. 學業成績平均85分以上，具研究潛力者。
      Holds an average score of 85 or above in the undergraduate study and presents outstanding research potential.
   2. 名次在該班學生前10%以內，具研究潛力者。
      Academically ranks in the top 10 percent of the student’s graduating class and presents outstanding research potential.
   3. 經系（所、學位學程）評定為成績優異，具研究潛力者。
      Has been assessed by the Department as a student with excellent academic performance and outstanding research potential.
3. 申請者應於本系規定期限提出申請，繳交資料應包含申請表、推薦函（二封以上）、歷年成績單（含各學期名次證明）、其他著作、論文或發明（若有）、攻讀博士學位研究計畫等。
   Applicants should submit the following materials by the application deadline announced by the Department: the application form, at least two recommendation letters, the final transcript of the undergraduate study (including class ranking), publications or inventions if applicable, a study plan for the Ph.D. program, etc.
4. 本系每學年逕修讀博士學位名額，以本系當學年度教育部核定博士班招生名額百分之四十（不足一名部分均以一名計）為限。此名額應包含於當學年度教育部核定本系招生總量內。
   The quota of students admitted to the direct Ph.D. track each year is limited to 40% (rounded up to the nearest whole digit) of the total number of Ph.D. students approved by the MOE for the year and shall count towards the total number approved as well.
5. 本系逕修讀博士學位之審查及口試委員之人選依本系教師口試(含資料審查)輪值表排七位委員。依書面資料及口試評定，經由本系審查通過後，並在學期開始上課前由管理學院複審完畢，送教務處彙總，簽請校長核定。
   By turns, seven faculty members of the Department will be assigned each year to serve on the Review and Oral Examination Committee and to process the screening of the applicants for the direct Ph.D. track. The committees will assess applicants based on their application materials and an oral examination. Upon approval by the Department, the screening results will be forwarded and confirmed by the College of Management and then sent to the Office of Academic Affairs to be given approval by NCTU President before the school begins.
6. 核准逕行修讀博士學位學生，為本系博士班一年級錄取生。入學後之修業規定，悉依本系博士班研究生修業辦法辦理。
   Students admitted to the direct Ph.D. track are regarded as first-year doctoral students who should abide by the regulations stated in the Policies and Procedures of the Ph.D. Program of the Department.
   核准逕行修讀博士學位學生，不得申請保留學籍。
   Students admitted to the direct Ph.D. track cannot apply for deferred enrollment.
   核准逕行修讀博士學位之學士班應屆畢業生，在就讀前需取得學士學位。在就讀前未取得學士學位者，取消其逕修讀博士學位資格。
   Students admitted to the direct Ph.D. track must have obtained their bachelor degree before school begins or their admission will be cancelled.
7. 學士班逕行修讀博士學位學生因故中止修讀博士學位或因未通過博士學位候選人資格考核，得檢具申請表，申請轉入相關學系（所、學位學程）碩士班就讀，經修讀博士班之同意，申請就讀之碩士班所屬學系（所、學位學程）相關會議審查通過，並經校長核定後，得轉入碩士班就讀。其在博士班之修業時間及休學紀錄不併入碩士班最高修業期限及休學紀錄內核計。若在學期中核定轉入者，該學期以就讀碩士班計算。
   A student who interrupts studying for the doctoral degree or fails the Ph.D. qualifying examination in the direct Ph.D. track may apply for admission of the master’s programs of related departments/institutes. Upon approval by such a department/institute, the current Ph.D. program, and NCTU President, the student may transfer to the master’s program of the department/institute. The student’s record of study period and leaves in the direct Ph.D. track will not count towards the limit of the master’s program. If the student transfers to the master’s program in the middle of a semester, then the semester will be regarded as the first semester of his/her master’s study.
8. 逕行修讀博士學位學生經核准轉入碩士班就讀者，其身份改變事實，應由教務處知會生活輔導組。
   The status change of the student who has been approved to transfer from the direct Ph.D. track to a master’s program should be informed to NCTU Life Guidance Division by the Office of Academic Affairs.
   轉回或轉入碩士班後，不得再行申請逕行修讀博士學位。
   Students who transfer back or to a master’s program are not allowed to apply for the direct Ph.D. track again.
9. 逕行修讀博士學位研究生修業期滿，修得本系博士班規定之學分數及本系規定之各項考核規定，但未通過博士學位考試，其所提論文若經博士學位考試委員會決定為合於碩士學位標準者，得授予碩士學位。
   A student who completes all the academic requirements and passes the Ph.D. qualifying examination in the direct Ph.D. track but fails the degree examination can be granted a master’s degree if the dissertation committee agrees that his/her dissertation meets the standard of a master’s thesis.
10. 本作業規定經本系系務會議通過實施，修正時亦同。
    The aforementioned regulations are implemented upon approval by the Departmental Affairs Meeting. The same procedure will be applied for future revisions.
