Research and Development

Our faculty members are active in research. Their works are published in IIE Transactions, European Journal of Operational Research, Accident Analysis and Prevention, IEEE Transactions on Semiconductor Manufacturing, International Journal of Production Research and International Journal of Production Economics, etc. According to 2013 QS World University Rankings, NCTU is ranked among the top 100 universities in the field of statistics and operations research.

Several faculty members have served or are serving as editor-in-chief or editors of international academic journals. IEM professors receive local and global recognition. For example, Professor Wen Lea Pearn was ranked among the “top twenty” most productive and highest-cited researchers in Operations Research and/or Management Science in Asia. He is also a three-time winner (2003, 2009, 2012) of the Outstanding Research Award from the National Science Council (NSC). 

IEM receives many research grants annually from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). For example, in 2017 MOST awarded twelve research grants with a budget of more than NT$8 million. IEM faculty also receive grants from government agencies such as the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), the Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology, the Institute of Information Industry (III), the Council of Agriculture, National Communications Commission (NCC) and the Taiwan Power Company. 

 

International Cooperation and Interaction

Regarding international cooperation and interaction, we are active participants in various academic conferences and we have established cooperative relationships with several first-class universities. These include Georgia Institute of Technology and the North Carolina State University in the United States. 

Students are able to apply for an exchange program according to the agreement of partner institutes, experience the academic atmosphere of foreign countries and interact with foreign students. We also offer Double Master Degree program with Tokyo University of Science (TUS) in Japan and TIAS School for Business and Society in Netherlands.
